Newbury Bulls Club Information
- by Matthew Boorer
Unfortunately I am the bearer of bad news and need to inform you that all games scheduled for this weekend are postponed. This round will now be shifted to the June long weekend i.e. June 9, 10, 11,12.
Some of the grounds will not be ready in time, especially the ones that have cricket pitches. Due to the inclement weather I dragged across with me from Western Australia, Council has been unable to do a lot of their maintenance, mowing, line marking, putting up of posts etc. Even though some grounds may look dry on the surface they are still extremely soggy underneath and on many grounds Council has been unable to drive trucks on the pitches and even ride on mowers haven’t been able to be utilised. A couple of you have got in touch with the office and have advised us of the same for your respective grounds.
The weather forecast doesn’t look promising for later in the week either. We also need to preserve our grounds – for a bit of short-term pain there should be long-term gain.
I also took into consideration that if some games got a start on the weekend and others didn’t it could create a problem down the track if this round was to be cancelled completely at a later date i.e. there would be teams/clubs complaining that they should still be awarded points if they had a win or a draw – and they would have a right to feel aggrieved.
The Board are aware of the postponement.
I hope you understand the above was not taken lightly, but at the same token I needed to let you now so you can communicate to your stakeholders and allow for you to plan down the track.
